The Only Person You Can Trust is Yourself – is a LIE from the enemy Thursday, Mar 25 2010

I saw a note from a friend that said, “The only person you can trust is yourself….” Not saying anything about that person, because I don’t know the person that well – but my feedback on that is; Actually we are reminded NOT to trust ourselves. That’s not my opinion. It’s Biblical.

Proverbs 3:5-6 (New International Version)

5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; 6 in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.

We are called sheep for a reason throughout the Bible. It’s about how we don’t see, what we don’t see. If you were to ever spend a day around sheep – it would literally freak you out about how they are about ‘flock mentality’ and ‘run head-long off a cliff’ they are if not properly fenced in, or if running free, given direction that keeps them from trouble or predatory enemies.

To answer the person’s Facebook statement, probably a reflection of being let down by someone – I would encourage everyone to TRUST GOD first. If you Trust God, and prayerfully seek His presence, I can tell you from personal experience that TRUST IN PEOPLE, and TRUST IN YOURSELF becomes a much smaller concern from day to day. Why? Because – HE will make your paths straight. And what does that mean? It means instead of YOU having to always worry about the obstacles coming in the form of manipulation and lies the enemy may play on you through people in your life, HE can actually remove them from your path, so that you do not even have to side step the conflict. FEW, including myself, get to have that experience. Why? Because we are hard headed (refer back to how sheep operate if that offends you) and want to do it OUR WAY! So you get what you get. Don’t blame the person who let you down. TAKE RESPONSIBILITY for allowing yourself to focus on an imperfect person, and not your creator. People are GUARANTEED to let you down. YOU are guaranteed to let others down. But in partnership w God, your steps – and possibly the steps of the person with whom you have had conflict, will be directed by God. He will NOT direct you into greater conflict. Confusion is NOT of God. In fact, if there is confusion, I can just about assure you – God is NOT in that situation – and YOU should not be either. Please also don’t take that statement as a way to assure yourself that you are in the right place. No ONE momentary quality of a relationship, can determine the quality of the entire relationship. No one paragraph of advice, should set your direction on any of life’s courses. God, through so many sources, has provided His Word – the Bible. It IS your instruction book for life. How can anyone expect to live ‘in His will’ if you don’t know what HE said?”

We do not live in a perfect world. Just as the sun rises on the good and the evil just the same, it rains on the just and the unjust just the same. (Matt 5:44-45) But if I were going to HAVE to walk through a world growing more dangerous and lost by the day – I would certainly NOT want to do so without the protection that God and God’s Word can provide. The Word is my sword against the enemy (always a spiritual battle by the way), and I am able to use it as my shield as well. FEW worldly responses to defense, and self-defense operate so well and so equally to both defend from attack, and to mount an attack.

I’m screwed up enough in my OWN BROKEN HUMANITY that I know no matter how hard I try, in my natural (worldly mind) I will cause pain to people with little things I say or do, sometimes without even realizing it. My mere presence will sometimes provoke others (and has). It is by my Trust (and yes that requires Faith) in God that I am able to feel assured that He is attending to those matters on my behalf, that I do not see – that I do not see.

To a GODLESS person, I would say, God is my attorney – reviewing my every word and action every moment of EVERY DAY. God as my attorney is negotiating on my behalf in advance of opportunities I can not see coming, and negotiating after the fact, to keep people from attacking me for things I did not realize they could or would bring grievance.

I don’t know what prompted the woman to put her statement up on Facebook today. I know her to be powerful, capable and loving. Maybe her note was God inspired, so that I could then be God inspired to write into the void that I see the statement could present for those who don’t know – what God has brought me to know on the subject.

KNOW. What a funny word. What does it mean to you – TO KNOW? I can tell you – the kind of KNOW to which I refer – has NOTHING to do with a thought, or intelligence. The KNOW that I speak of – is in your heart. And that – is a subject for a different extemporaneous exposition.

God bless one and all on your journey today –

I hope that this finds you, and the people you know and love – well.

Share it as you like – and feel free to connect it to me in case anyone has concerns, questions, objections or provocations. God inspired it of me – and I’m sure He already sees the heart of those to whom it may bring struggle.

My day is waiting for me – so I’ll close now.

Peace ~ Troy Leger

Friday Devotion-The Next Shot from Pastor Jack Graham Friday, Mar 5 2010

And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.

                                                                                         — Romans 8:28

There’s a debate among golfers as to which shot is most important. Some say that it’s the tee shot, because you need to get the ball down the fairway. But others say that it’s the putt, because ultimately, you have to put the ball in the cup.

Well, these are both important shots, but the most important shot in golf is the very next shot you’re going to hit, whatever it is. You see, no one plays golf perfectly, not even the best players in the world. But if you don’t take that next shot, then you’re not playing the game.

And when it comes to doing the will of God, you and I won’t always do it perfectly, either.

Sometimes we get off track or make a bad choice. But God doesn’t want you to give up on faith because you’ve made a mistake. Don’t let a bad decision lead to a series of bad choices, or one bad day lead to a string of bad days.

If you let him, God will take your mistakes and missteps and put you back on a track that glorifies him!

Take the next shot. Start doing what he says to do with your next choice. And according to his promise, he will cause all things to work together for good.

GOD CAN TAKE YOUR MISTAKES AND MISSTEPS, AND PUT YOU BACK ON A TRACK THAT GLORIFIES HIM!
